We are a family business passionate about what we do - drawing inspiration from nature to design eco homewares for everyday living, using only sustainable materials.
Jennie has a background in design and retail. As a buyer for the company’s retail shops (The Clementine), she wanted to source affordable gifts and homeware made from sustainable materials with a clean contemporary design. It was not something that she could find and so decided to design and make her own - LIGA was born.
Fairly quickly into this process the love affair with cork started. The eco-friendly process of cork harvesting enables the products to be made without the need for felling trees. This process doesn't interfere with the delicate eco systems of the cork forests (also known as Montado forests), keeping the forests safe for their animal inhabitants. Montado forests play a vital role in the control of climate balance by absorbing a huge 32 million tons of CO2 each year. The harvested cork is still in fact a living material, which continues to absorb Co2 long after it has been harvested. Amazing.
LIGA uses other beautiful materials such as Organic unbleached cotton, oyster shells, recycled papers, vegan wax, compostable cloth, bamboo, recycled EVA plastics and ceramics to create our sustainable collections. These are ethically sourced from around the world with the hand printing, making and finishing carefully done in Cornwall.
LIGA launched with tableware collections including cork placemats in many designs, trivets and Earthware pottery and has now branched into sustainable gifts, with many exciting new products to come.
We are in the process of moving LIGA HQ and our Truro Clementine shop into our own 'eco village' which we are creating with shipping containers, Cork and a lot of love - just outside Truro in Cornwall.
